Meet your teacher, Miss Octavia Fearns.

Hello Parents, Guardians and of course my lovely students, if you don’t know me already my name is Octavia Fearns (or Miss Octavia to my students). I am the founder of Inside Out Dance Company, I graduated in 2019 from the world renowned Bird College conservatoire of Dance and Musical theatre, graduating with a BA hons Professional Dance and Musical Theatre.

I have been teaching children dance and drama since the age of 16 at the prestigious Elliott Clarke Dance School in Liverpool. I trained here full time before studying in London for my degree. Alongside this I have coached disability gymnastics for two years and have worked with a wide range of children with different backgrounds, behavioural and learning disabilities.

Since graduating Bird College London and while teaching I have also performed professionally as a dancer in Mack and Mable the concert at the Hackney Empire. Played a female lead in a South London touring panto of Jack and the Bean Stalk, backing dancing for Britain's got talent the champions and most recently a backing dancer for an American Netflix series about dogs!

During lockdown I got the chance to continue performing, becoming a presenter and host for children’s online festivals both for the BBC’s Dancing Towns and Lambeth council. I have also been awarded a Choreography award from West end performer and Choreographer Graeme Henderson (most famous for 42nd street) and I was delighted to take part in a project last summer with Choreographer Lea Anderson at the Chelsea Theatre and dancing for Chorographer Neath Champion-Weeks in an art piece for the Clifton Museum.

I decided to create Inside Out Dance Company during lock down in 2020. Based of a study I did for my dissertation, I have been developing a syllabus of work aimed at primary school children that is based around teaching dance with a mindful approach. Working on creating a specialist syllabus of dance aimed to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of children. Through Contemporary dance and Improvisation.

I teach classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical theatre, Street, Contemporary and ISTD graded dance examinations in modern, along with Our specialist Inside Out syllabus aimed to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children through Contemporary dance and Improvisation.

I have a fully enhanced DBS certificate, paediatric first aid training and an ISTD dance teaching qualification.

I have also made a YouTube channel with mindful crafts, meditation and dance practices for children. Along with an Instagram page full of resources and activities for parent teachers and children, to help practice mindfulness in a fun and creative way!
